Scholarships

For First-Time International Students

The International Freshmen Merit Scholarship is a merit-based tuition waiver for new F-1 undergraduate, degree-seeking international students admitted directly into a university bachelor’s degree program.

The award is for $2,500 for the first academic year; $1,250 for the first fall and $1,250 for the first spring semester of enrollment and is applicable to tuition only.

Eligibility

All new F-1 undergraduate, degree-seeking international students applying to Utah Tech University will be considered. Scholarships will be awarded to international students who meet the following criteria:

  • English proficiency scores:
    • Overall TOEFL score 68+ (Reading – 22+ & Writing 24+ preferred)
    • Overall IELTS score of 6.0+ (Reading 6.0+ & Writing 6.0 +)
    • Overall Duolingo score of 95+
    • Overall iTEP Score of 3.5+
    • ACT English score of 17+
    • SAT Writing/Language score of 24+
    • College Placement Test (CPT/Accuplacer) Sentence Skills scores of 237+ and a Reading Score of a 239+
  • 3.0 GPA or equivalent OR ACT score of 26+ OR SAT score of 1240+

Scholarship recipients will be required to maintain a minimum 3.3 GPA each semester.

How to Apply

Submit all Admission Requirements for scholarship consideration by:

  • July 1st for Fall Semester
  • December 1st for Spring Semester

Applicants may be admitted if documents are received after the deadline, but they are not eligible for scholarship funding.

For Continuing and Transfer Students

The International Merit Scholarship is a merit-based tuition waiver for current students and transfer F-1 undergraduate, degree-seeking international students enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at Utah Tech University.

The award is for $5,500 each year; $2,750 for the fall and $2,750 for the spring semester of enrollment and is applicable to tuition only.

Eligibility

All continuing F-1 undergraduate, degree-seeking international students enrolled full-time in an associate or bachelor’s degree program at Utah Tech University St. George main campus and complete the application will be considered. Scholarships will be awarded to international students who meet the following criteria:

  • Complete a minimum of 24 credit hours and have a minimum 3.3 GPA from Utah Tech University or another regionally accredited before applying for the scholarship (excludes ESL credits).
  • Must be working toward an Associates’ or Bachelors’ degree
  • Must have a verification of eligibility signed by an International Office representative.
  • Must be in good standing with the International Student & Scholars Office

Once on scholarship, students must pass 12 credits or more per semester while maintaining a 3.3 overall GPA or higher.

Admission Requirements

Undergraduate International Student Admission Requirements

To be admitted international students must provide the following:

  • Initial Application for Admission. Click Apply Now to start. 
  • Evidence you have completed secondary school (transcript, diploma, national examination certificate, etc.). 
    • If you want to be considered for receiving the International Freshmen Merit Scholarship, you must submit a complete transcript or all scores from a secondary school exit examination. However, If you are not interested in receiving the scholarship, you may submit a diploma or other confirmation that secondary school was completed. We evaluate all secondary school records within the International Student Services office, so you will not need to use a credential evaluation service.
  • Evidence of financial capability. Provide proof of financial support from a bank or other lending institution showing a source of income for the total expenses needed to attend one full year at Utah Tech. This may be in the form of a certified bank statement or an official letter from the bank or institution. Complete the Affidavit of Support form if you are submitting financial records from a sponsor. 
  • A copy of the identification page of your passport. Note: Your passport must have at least 6 months of validity from the first day of classes for the term you applied for. If it does not, please renew it.
  • English Proficiency. Proof of English proficiency is required for all students who did not complete secondary schooling in the U.S., Canada (excluding Quebec province), the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand. Students who do not have sufficient English proficiency scores will need to enroll in English as a Second Language (ESL) courses before beginning their degree-seeking studies. You must prove proficiency by submitting one of the scores listed below:
    • Overall TOEFL iBT score of 68 + (Reading section must be 22+ & Writing section must be 24+)
    • Overall Academic IELTS score of 6.0+ (Reading must be 6.0+ & Writing must be 6.0+)
    • Overall Duolingo English test score of 95+
    • ACT English score of 17+
    • SAT Writing/Language Score of 24+
    • Accuplacer Reading Score of 239+ and Sentence Skills Score of 237+
    • Overall iTEP Score of 3.5+
    • 24+ non-ESL transfer credits from an accredited institution of higher education within the United States. If your scores are lower than the scores listed above, you can only be issued an I-20 for the English as a Second Language (ESL) program.
      • If you do begin with ESL classes, you can pursue a degree after completing the ESL program, as long as you have demonstrated the higher proof of finances requirement. For students who test with advanced English, the ESL program may only be 1 semester. For students with very little education in English, the program may last up to two years.
    • High school transcript reflecting graduation from a U.S. high school.

Graduate International Student Admission Requirements

To be admitted, graduate international students must provide the following:

60 Days Prior to Program Application Deadline

  • Complete the Graduate Program application by clicking Apply Now.
  • Complete all program-specific admission requirements including submission of admission test scores (GRE, GMAT, or MAT), letters of reference, personal statements, and other supporting documentation with the application.
  • If you have an undergraduate degree in the United States, Canada (except Quebec), United Kingdom, New Zealand or Australia and English is your native language, you will not be required to provide evidence of English language proficiency.  If you have an undergraduate degree, with attendance of at least two years, from an institution in one of these countries in which English is the language of instruction (United States, Canada [except Quebec], United Kingdom, New Zealand or Australia), you will not be required to provide additional evidence of English proficiency.  International applicants who do not meet these criteria must take one of the following tests:
    • TOEFL: paper-based 550, computer-based 213, or internet-based 79  
    • IELTS: 6.0  
  • Degree Requirements:
    • Bachelor degree from an accredited, U.S. university. Official U.S. transcripts are required to be attached to the application.
    • However, if your bachelor’s degree was earned outside of the U.S., you will need to have your transcript evaluated by a credential evaluation company and sent to Utah Tech. (World Education Services Recommended). Any credential evaluation company must be a part of NACES. This process can take 2-3 months; therefore, we require proof that any foreign transcripts be submitted to a credential evaluation company 60 days prior to the program application deadline.  If not provided, your application will be moved to the next application term. 
    • If your program of study requires specific coursework, syllabi for each course must be sent to samira.hall@utahtech.edu.

Graduate Degree-Specific Admission Requirements

  1. Completed application.
  2. Professional resume. Be certain that your résumé indicates your employment history, extracurricular collegiate, professional, and community activities, honors and awards, and foreign language proficiency.
  3. Official transcripts. A 3.0 cumulative GPA and 3.0 GPA in accounting courses is required. Official transcripts are required from each college or university you attended. Coursework completed at one institution and posted on the transcript of a second institution is not acceptable- a transcript from the original institution is required. (This includes summer coursework, exchange programs, etc.) Transcripts must be received in sealed envelopes.
  4. Two letters of recommendation. One should come from an individual who is familiar with your scholastic record and one should come from an individual who is familiar with your professional performance. The third (optional) letter can be from either a second academic or professional reference, or from someone who knows you well and is familiar with your potential as a graduate student. Letters of recommendation are confidential, and will not be released to the applicant.
  5. Statement of purpose essay. Please provide a thoughtful essay response to the following questions. Please limit your response to two pages, double spaced.
    • What are your short-term and long-term career goals? How will the master’s degree program help you achieve these goals?
    • You are welcome to include any unique events, life experiences, and qualifications you feel distinguish your candidacy as well.
  6. Official GMAT/GRE score report, or approved waiver. GMAT score of 550 or GRE score of 150 required, or approved waiver. We require that the test administrator submit your score directly to Utah Tech University. The appropriate test must be taken within five years of the semester in which you wish to enroll.

    Note: Current UT Accounting students with a 3.5+ GPA do not need to submit a GMAT or GRE test score. Transfer accounting students with a 3.5+ GPA (from an AACSB institution) do not need to submit a GMAT or GRE test score.

  7. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or completed foundation courses. Bachelor’s in Accounting degree must be from an Accredited College or University (AACSB or ACBSP). Applicants without an accounting degree must complete the following required undergraduate foundation courses to be accepted in to the master’s program:

  1. Completed application. Fill out the Psychology graduate application for graduate school, specifying the Marriage and Family Therapy Program.
  2. Submit three letters of recommendation. Applicants need to submit 3 letters of recommendation, split between individuals who are capable of describing the applicant’s educational and professional ability.
  3. Submit college transcripts. Preference is given to those meeting a 3.0 GPA (B or better), especially for the last 60 credits and any psychology classes.
  4. Submit personal introduction statement. A statement of why you want to be in the MFT program.

  2. Writing samples. Submit one or more writing samples of which you are the sole author totaling 10 to 30 pages. The samples should be from customary academic and professional genres, including (but not limited to) essays, descriptions, specifications, computer documentation, proposals, memoranda, formal reports, newsletters, online documentation, or web pages. Your writing sample(s) may be comprised of one or multiple bodies of work equal to the page requirements and should demonstrate mastery of analytical and technical writing skills.

    (If you think a brief description of your writing sample would help the reviewers better understand a document’s audience and purpose, feel free to include that in your writing sample package or explain it in your Personal Statement.)

  3. Two confidential letters of recommendation. You will include two letters of recommendation with your application (you may submit more, but the reviewers favor two very strong, specific letters so select your recommenders discerningly). Applicants will submit the contact information for each recommender in the application portal. Each letter of recommendation is to be addressed to the UT TW&DR admissions committee and submitted by the recommender. Recommenders will submit letters via the application portal. Letters of recommendation are confidential and will not be released to the applicant.
  4. Personal introduction. Compose a personal introduction (300-500 words) that convinces the admissions committee that you are a good candidate for the TW&DR graduate program. Consider answering some of the following questions: What are your specific academic and professional goals and interests? What is your experience and/or potential as a professional writer? What are some of your specific interests in the TW&DR program beyond gaining more competitive credentials? Are you more interested in theory, pedagogy, or artful application (techne)? The reviewers will privilege personal introductions that demonstrate an awareness of the program and a readiness for its rigors.
  5. Letter of intent (GA applicants only). TW&DR applicants who want to be considered for a teaching position must also include a letter of intent to teach freshman composition. Although all Graduate Assistants will enroll in a practicum course designed to prepare them to teach, your letter should demonstrate some basic knowledge of composition pedagogy. In addition to mastery of writing conventions, teaching composition requires good organization, clear communication, sound sensibilities, and profound commitment to your students’ success. Your letter should convince the reviewers that you can create—with English faculty help—a great learning environment for UT freshmen. You may also want to briefly speak to your availability to teach a daytime MWF course on the St. George, Utah campus.
  6. Official transcripts. Submit an official transcript from each college or university you have attended. Applicants must have earned a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA in the final 60 credits of the applicant’s B.A. or B.S. degree. Coursework completed at one institution and posted on the transcript of a second institution is not acceptable; a transcript from each institution is required. (This includes summer coursework, exchange programs, etc.) Transcripts must be sent directly from each prior college or university to the UT Registrar. UT alumni can request (without charge) UT transcripts through the Registrar’s Office.
  7. B.A. or B.S. degree. The applicant’s bachelor’s degree must be from a regionally accredited college or university, or the equivalent for international students.

  5. Official Transcripts: Provision of official transcripts from all attended institutions, verifying academic credentials.
  6. English Proficiency: For international students, proof of English language proficiency is required.
  7. Admissions Interview: Completion of an interview with the MHA program admissions committee.
  8. GRE Scores: While GRE scores are recommended for a strong application, they are not a mandatory requirement.

  5. Video submission. As part of the application process, you will be asked to record and submit a 3–4 minute video narrative addressing the following questions to help us learn more about you and your interest in the Master’s of Software Development program.
    • Why do you want to study Software Development?
    • What makes you interested in studying at Utah Tech University?
    • What are your short term and long term career plans?
    • What personal strengths would you bring to the program?
    • Share your experience in programming or software development (if any).

Curriculum Vitae. The CV should provide the admissions committee with information about any experiences or skills you have supporting your candidacy for a user experience design graduate program.   4. Portfolio & Narrative. Applicants are required to present 3 – 5 portfolio items showcasing proficiency in User Experience Research, Design, or related study. For each piece, include 1 – 2 sentences offering context and narrative to the project and how it strengthens your candidacy for the Master’s in User Experience Design program. Examples for candidates with design experience could include: wireframes, pitch decks, research plans, survey designs, case studies, personas, etc. are appropriate. Candidates without design experience could include: digital marketing projects, product management, research, certifications, writing samples, business plans, problem-solving scenarios, personal projects, etc.  Additionally, submission of other relevant pieces within your respective undergraduate field of study and/or links to web-based resources are welcome.

Statement of Purpose. Please provide a written statement outlining your enthusiasm for pursuing graduate studies within Utah Tech’s Masters of UXD program.  Highlight the skills from your background that have equipped you for this degree and elaborate on what draws you to the realm of user experience.

  2. Graduated with a B.A. or B.S. degree from a regionally accredited institution (or the equivalent for international students) with an overall GPA of at least 2.7 for the last two years of enrollment.
  3. Prerequisite coursework must be completed at a regionally accredited institution within the past 5 years (with a required GPA at least 2.7 and no single grade lower than a C) 
  4. All bachelor’s degree and prerequisite coursework must be completed prior to the first day of class in the Occupational Therapy curriculum.
  5. GRE scores are not required for admission to our program.
  6. To be competitive, we recommend that you have at least 40 observation hours in two different settings; Please be sure to state any pertinent volunteer hours and work experience on OTCAS.
  7. Technical standards form (will be made available upon acceptance).
