Please reference the following instructions if you are a first-year or a transfer applicant.
On the application and any supporting documents, please use your name as it appears on your passport.
Northeastern expects all applicants to submit an application (essays, transcripts, test scores, etc.) that is in its entirety completed by the applicant. No part of the application can be completed by persons (including paid agents, admissions support agencies, or personnel) other than the student applying for admission. Use of such services violates Northeastern policies, and will lead to the rejection of application materials, the revocation of an admissions offer, cancellation of admission, or involuntary withdrawal from the university.
When reviewing your application, Northeastern’s Admissions Committee will initially focus on your academic records, which include your high school transcript; final or predicted results from any national, regional, or international examinations; any university transcripts; and for first-year applicants who will graduate from a high school which is located outside of the United States, the Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR). Provided below are additional details on the academic records which Northeastern requires from all first-year and transfer applicants.
Note: Upon acceptance, all students are required to participate in the school’s student health program or in a health benefit plan with comparable coverage.
When reviewing your application, Northeastern’s Admissions Committee will initially focus on your academic records, which include your high school transcript; final or predicted results from any national, regional, or international examinations; any university transcripts. Provided below are additional details on the academic records which Northeastern requires from all first-year and transfer applicants.
All first-year applicants will be required to self-report their coursework and grades. The platform to submit will be available this fall. All applicants will receive an updated communication on next steps.
High School Transcripts
Before you enroll at Northeastern, you will be expected to complete a pre-university education program, earning a graduation certificate or diploma which will enable you to apply to a bachelor’s degree-seeking program at a university in your home country. Examples include your High School Diploma, International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Levels (A-Levels), Attestat o Srednem Obshchem Obrazovanii, Baccalauréat, Bachillerato, General Secondary Education Certificate, Indian Standard XII Higher Secondary School Certificate, or West African Senior School Certificate.
Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR)
All first-year applicants are required to submit the Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR). Once your application is submitted and processed, you will be able to access your SRAR through the Application Status Check portal. For additional information on the SRAR, please review Self-Reported Academic Record subsection.
University Transcripts
If you are applying as a transfer student from an international university and wish to have courses evaluated for transfer credit after admittance, you will need to provide a certified transcript evaluation completed by a recognized credentialing agency, such as the Center for Educational Documentation (CED), SpanTran, World Education Services (WES), or another recognized credentialing agency and the credentialed evaluation must include the following:
National Exams
If progression or promotion in your country or education system requires you to complete any externally assessed examinations, please read the following section, as Northeastern will require you to submit your final results (or predicted grades, if your final results are not available until after admissions decisions are released).
Predicted results should be submitted with the High School Transcript, Secondary School Report, or Counselor Recommendation; or submitted by a designated school official from a verifiable school email address, using either Northeastern’s Predicted Grades Request Form or your high school’s own predicted grades statement. If your final test scores are not within an acceptable range of your predicted results, Northeastern reserves the right to rescind any offers of admission.
Application Requirements for Common International Education Systems
While Northeastern’s application requirements are largely identical for all first-year applicants and all transfer applicants – the application with Northeastern-specific questions, your academic records, secondary school report or college report, recommendation letters, standardized testing (optional), and English proficiency – the documents which ultimately satisfy those requirements, specifically for the academic records, will sometimes vary by education system. Below are the application requirements for common international education systems. If you do not see your education system listed below, contact your agent.
Northeastern University is test-optional and does not require applicants to submit standardized testing (SAT or ACT) to be considered for admission.
Northeastern students will be exposed to not only a rigorous academic environment but also a fast-paced experiential one. In order to be successful in both, all first-year and transfer applicants, regardless of citizenship, must demonstrate proficiency in English to be considered for admission to Northeastern.
| C1 Advanced (CAE) or C2 Proficiency (CPE) | 190 to 202 |
| Duolingo English Test (DET) | 130 to 145 |
| IELTS Academic | 7.0 to 8.0 |
| PTE Academic | 68 to 81 |

All international students applying to Northeastern are required to complete and submit the Declaration and Certification of Finances (DCF), which is designed to assist the Admissions Committee in obtaining complete and accurate information about each applicant’s anticipated financial support. Each applicant must verify your ability to fully finance your Northeastern education, including tuition and fees, room and board, and personal living expenses. Information is necessary as the financial support for international students at Northeastern is limited:
Once your application is submitted, and processed by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, you will be given access to your Application Status Check. You can access the DCF through your Application Status Check. Instructions are provided here.
Documents should be submitted online through the Common Application or Coalition Application.
The application process varies based on the program or college international students choose to apply to.
All graduate applicants need to submit the following:
Most programs require international students show proof of English proficiency, which can be met by submitting official TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE exam scores (check with your program requirements before taking an exam). Preferred minimum scores vary by college.
Students may be exempt from the requirement if they submit documentation proving they received a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a college or university in which English was the only language of instruction.
International students will also need to complete an I-20 request form, as well as submit a copy of their passport or permanent residency card, after being admitted into their desired program.
For international students applying to a business, social sciences, engineering, mathematics, or science program, whose TOEFL or IELTS scores do not meet the minimum requirement, Northeastern encourages them to apply to the university’s Global Pathways program. The program can help students boost their English language skills and academic knowledge before enrolling in their program of choice.
Note: Upon acceptance, all students are required to participate in the school’s student health program or in a health benefit plan with comparable coverage.
College- and Program-Specific Admission Requirements
The application process varies based on the program or college international students choose to apply to.
The preferred payment for the Application Fee is paid online by credit card.
Application fee waivers may be provided to Northeastern alumni and employees, current AmeriCorps program members, and to applicants that are affiliated with the Graduate Education for Minorities (GEM) Program or the Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program. Proof of affiliation to any of these programs must be submitted to the graduate admissions office for approval. Applicants that are approved for a waiver should submit the online application by choosing the “pay by check” option.
We are unable to waive application fees for programs that are part of any of the following Centralized Application Service: CASPA, CSDCAS, NursingCAS, PharmCAS, PharmGrad, PTCAS, SOPHAS.
Recommendation information is submitted electronically in the application. Our automated system will send a reference request to the e-mail addresses provided.
We do not accept recommendations and other documents from Interfolio.
A statement of purpose should briefly describe what brought you to pursue an advanced education degree in your chosen field, how you view the future of your intended field of study and what you plan to do with your degree. You may include any other information that you feel might help the admission committee learn more about you.
The most recent copy of your resumé should be uploaded in your application.
Applicants submitting an application through a Centralized Application System must meet the transcript requirements set by the service (typically official transcripts sent directly from the Registrar’s Office).
Applicants submitting an application via Northeastern’s application system should follow these guidelines:

You can apply to Northeastern University as a freshman if you are a current high school student or have already graduated but have not attended college.
If you are a CURRENT Northeastern undergraduate, and you wish to enter the PharmD program, you can change your major to pharmacy.
If you’re looking to transfer to our PharmD program at Northeastern, please choose from one of the two possible pathways below, that best describes your level of preparation to date:
1. Transfer into 1st Professional Year
If you have completed two or more years of undergraduate work, including the courses listed below, and have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree, you can apply to transfer directly into the first Professional Year (P1 of 4 years) of the PharmD Program.
| Prerequisites for Transfer into P1 of the PharmD Program | Semester Hours |
|---|---|
| Biology I & II (must include at least one lab component between the two courses) | 7 |
| Chemistry I & II (must include at least one lab component between the two courses) | 7 |
| Organic Chemistry I & II with labs | 8 |
| Biochemistry | 3 |
| Calculus or other high-level math | 3 |
| Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II with 1 lab | 7 |
| General Humanities | 4 |
Please apply using the PharmCAS application, where you will also find more information about transfer requirements.
2. Transfer into 2nd Pre-professional Year
If you have fewer than two years of undergraduate coursework, or have not already taken the courses listed above, you can apply to transfer into the second pre-professional year of the Early Assurance Doctorate in Pharmacy program.
As an Early Assurance student, you will complete, at Northeastern, the remaining undergraduate, pre-professional requirements for entrance into the PharmD program, including at least twelve semester hours of science prerequisite coursework:
| Early Assurance PharmD Program Coursework | Semester Hours |
|---|---|
| General Chemistry I with Lab (required) | 4 |
| General Chemistry II with Lab (strongly recommended) | 4 |
| General Biology I with Lab (required) | 4 |
| General Biology II with Lab (strongly recommended) | 4 |
| Calculus or higher | 4 |
| Foundations of Psychology | 4 |
| College writing (equivalent to ENGW 1111) | 4 |
In addition, you must meet all other progression plan requirements before being considered for admission into the first Professional (P1) Year of the PharmD program.
A minimum grade of C is required in major prerequisite courses (those identified with the subject codes BIOL, CHEM, MATH). To progress into the subsequent year of professional courses, students must have completed all professional prerequisites with the required minimum passing grade, have satisfactorily completed all academic courses in the preprofessional phase of the curriculum, have a preferred overall GPA of 3.000 or higher, and a preferred science prerequisite GPA of 3.000 or higher. The science GPA is comprised of all courses with prefixes BIOL, CHEM and MATH. In addition, to progress into the first professional year of the PharmD program (P1), students must demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills, understanding of the pharmacy profession, and commitment to patient care through an interview process based on criteria set by the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
All students entering P1 in fall 2022 and beyond are required to complete the PharmCAS application. The PharmCAS application process is considered a formality in the progression process and will not jeopardize the student’s preferred or guaranteed enrollment status.
To progress into the subsequent semester of professional courses, students must receive a grade of C or better in all PHMD and PHSC courses, as well as in any course completed to fulfill the professional elective requirement.
Pharmacy (PharmD-UG) students must maintain an overall GPA of 3.000 or higher during the professional years (P1–P4) of the Doctor of Pharmacy program.
You will be required to submit a PharmCAS application during your second pre-professional year as part of the progression requirements. As long as you meet the progression requirements and satisfactorily pass the progression interview, you will enter the P1 year of the PharmD program. The PharmCAS application process is considered a formality in the progression process and will not jeopardize your preferred or guaranteed enrollment status.
Please apply to this pathway through our Undergraduate Admissions website, where you will find more information, as well as application materials and deadlines.

RequirementsTo be considered for admission to a CAMD graduate program, international applicants must show proof of English proficiency. This requirement can be met by submitting satisfactory results on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Duolingo English Test.
Please note that scores are valid for two years and scores must be valid at the time your application is received. Official score reports must be sent to Northeastern University directly from the testing agency.
Applicants who have received or will be receiving a degree from an institution outside the United States are required to submit all transcripts, as well as certified English translations, with their application. Accepted students who plan to enroll at CAMD are further required to submit official documentation. Please see details below:
Online Application – Fall 2024 Applicants
Please upload copies of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts and diplomas (if available), as well as certified English translations of all documents, to the online application portal.
Matriculating Students – Spring 2024 and earlier
Students who enrolled in a CAMD graduate program prior to Fall 2024 must submit an official course-by-course transcript evaluation indicating conferral of an undergraduate degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. This evaluation is more than an English translation; it is a document provided by an accredited evaluation agency that shows all grades, course titles, credit hours, United States degree equivalency, grade point average (GPA), and date of degree conferral.
Accepted international applicants planning to enroll at CAMD must submit a completed I-20 Request Form at least 16 weeks prior to the start of classes. Students cannot receive visa application forms, required to register for courses, unless they file the e-form certifying that they have enough financial support to cover all educational and living expenses.
International applicants already in the United States must also submit a copy of their current SEVIS I-20 or DS-2019 form, current visa, I-94 card (front and back), identity page of a valid foreign passport, and an Office of Global Services Transfer-In Form. If you do not require an I-20 or DS-2019, please complete the Data Form.
In addition to the general requirements, applicants to the Graduate Certificate in Experience Design must submit work samples.
Graduate Certificate: 1 – 3 documents
The work samples should consist of recent original work that demonstrates design or other relevant project-based experience. Work samples can include, but are not limited to:
Provide authorship information, year, title and other relevant information (such as course name and instructor) for each project. Documents can be a single-page image/pdf file or a multi-page pdf file. As part of the required documents you can include multiple aspects of the same project.
Please note that applicants to the graduate certificate program must only provide one letter of recommendation, not three.
Northeastern BS in Architecture Alumni:
Students who have taken time off after graduating from the BS program must submit all of the application materials listed above. Please note that your personal statement should not exceed one page and that one of your three reference letters should be academic.
Additionally, students who graduated prior to 2019 are required to provide work samples that demonstrate proficiency in software such as Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, and Rhino or SketchUp. PDFs of one student project and one professional project should be submitted via SlideRoom.
External Candidates:
For consideration for the 2-year program, applicants must submit a portfolio and evidence of sufficient coursework in building technology. Please see further information and instructions regarding the technology review below. Admission is at the discretion of the admissions committee, and decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.
Portfolio is optional for applicants to the 3-year program.
Applicants may be required to submit evidence of course equivalencies prior to matriculation for course placement.
Applicants must have taken one semester of college-level physics and one semester of college-level calculus. Students who enter the program without physics and calculus have one year from the date of matriculation to complete and pass these courses, which can be taken outside Northeastern (failure to do so may impede progress in the program).
Portfolio Guidelines
The committee will be reviewing your portfolio not only for technical proficiencies but equally importantly for evidence of your depth of thinking and approach to problem solving. Please be sure to show projects that are most representative of your abilities and interests.
The portfolio should be one PDF file and must include the following (approximately 25 pages):
Technology Review
If you wish to be considered for the 2-year program the review process requires that you provide evidence of sufficient coursework in building technology.
The following course waiver forms identify the key topics covered in Northeastern University building technology courses. Each form should include the course number, course name, and the grade received for EACH listed topic. (If you are unfamiliar with the US letter grade system you can use the grade conversion tool from World Education Services to convert between national systems.) When complete, upload the completed forms along with course syllabi or other supporting materials* showing evidence of coursework as requested on the form to the CAMD Supplementary Section of the online application. (Note that submitting the forms and supporting materials does not guarantee placement in the 2-year program.)
*A course syllabus or other supporting materials such as an assignment sheet should include information such as a course description, a schedule of topics that are covered in the course (how many class meetings are devoted to each topic), and any relevant textbooks or resources used.
Please note that the GRE is NOT required for admission.

| Passing Certificate | Some schools issue a Passing Certificate instead of a Provisional Degree Certificate, which is usually mentioned on the certificate. However, some schools issue a Passing Certificate simply to confirm that the student completed the degree requirements and passed the final examination. We can accept a Passing Certificate if it includes information about the student’s eligibility for the degree and is only acceptable if it’s within one year. If it only indicates that the student passed the final examination, it won’t be sufficient, and they’ll need to provide a copy of the Provisional Degree Certificate if they’ve just completed the program. |

The statement of purpose is important for determining an applicant’s motivation and conviction in applying for their desired program. We are looking for specific and driven statements of purpose. The statement is a good place for applicants to contextualize their educational experience. We recommend a length of 1000 words – however, this is a guideline and not a hard limit.
For students who are applying directly from undergrad, we recommend two academic and one professional reference. For students who are applying from the workforce, we recommend two professional and one academic reference. These are guidelines and not requirements. Recommenders must submit letters via the link provided by the application portal—we cannot accept letters via third-party systems such as Interfolio.
Please note that the campus preference you list on your application is only a preference and is not binding—an application for the MSCS program is applicable for all campuses and subject to campus capacity limits.
If program is offered in multiple locations, applicants are required to select a first and second choice campus, as the capacity limit in each location varies.
To be admissible to our LLM programs, you are required to hold a first professional law degree. For domestic applicants, a JD is required. NU Transcript Policy
NU’s transcript policy requires enrolling graduate and professional degree program students to submit to NU official transcripts including evidence of the completion of the bachelor’s degree and the date of degree conferral within 30 days from the start of their first academic term. Failure to complete this requirement will result in a registration hold being placed on the student’s account preventing future term course registration.
Official Transcript Requirements and Definition:
You are required to arrange for receipt by NUSL your transcripts (or marksheets) that evidences all university-level (post-secondary education) courses, credits and grades (or marks) from any and all colleges or universities that you have ever attended, whether or not you received a degree from said colleges or universities. If you hold a degree from any previous institution, and if the transcripts do not evidence the completion of a degree, you are also required to arrange for receipt by NUSL an official certificate of completion or diploma that evidences the degree that you hold, and the date of degree conferral. An official document/transcript is one that is generally printed on security sensitive paper, and includes a university seal, and the signature of the registrar’s office or similar authority. Official electronic transcripts also include a university seal and the signature of the registrar’s office. Generally, any document received directly from a student is not considered official, unless it is received in a sealed package or envelope. An official document is typically one that is sent from the originating institution or company directly to NUSL or LSAC for processing. Documents received by NU become the property of NU and cannot be returned.
Deadline:
You are encouraged to complete this requirement prior to matriculation. You are required to complete this requirement by/before deadline: 30 days after the first day of classes of your effective term of entry (e.g. if September 15 is the first day of the term for which you plan to course enroll/matriculate, you must complete this requirement by October 14). After the deadline, students will not be allowed to enroll for the subsequent term unless and until they fulfill this requirement.
Applicants to the LLM Program whose first language is not English should provide a TOEFL iBT® or IELTS score report. Applicants whose first law degree was conducted in English are not required to provide a TOEFL iBT® or IELTS score report.
Contact the ETS and request that your TOEFL score be sent directly to LSAC or directly to Northeastern. The TOEFL code for LSAC’s LLM Credential Assembly Service is 8395; the TOEFL code for Northeastern University School of Law is 4999. The ETS website can provide current information about test registration and scheduling. Northeastern University School of Law also accepts an official IELTS score report. Test scheduling and registration information for the IELTS exam can be found on the IELTS website.
On-Campus LLM applicants who achieve a score of 85 or better on the TOEFL iBT® or an IELTS overall band score of 6.5 or better will be considered for admission. Applicants with a TOEFL score of 79-84 will be considered for admission and required to complete an oral interview via the internet or in person as part of the application process.
The LSAT is not required for entry into the LLM Program, but applicants who have taken it should submit their score.
Applicants must have one letter of recommendation submitted by their recommender, either directly to the Northeastern University School of Law LLM Program or through the LSAC Letter of Recommendation Service, which is part of the CAS registration. A maximum of two letters of recommendation may be submitted. We suggest that applicants select individuals who have first-hand knowledge of their academic work, intellectual and personal qualities, and other characteristics that make them a strong LLM candidate.
All applicants must submit a résumé or curriculum vitae as part of the application. The résumé may include academic and professional honors received (e.g., prizes, scholarly awards, membership in honor societies, recognition/service awards); extracurricular and community activities; work experience; and references for any scholarly publications.
All applicants must provide a personal statement of purpose, written in their own words. The personal statement should be two pages, double-spaced. It should discuss the applicant’s reasons for applying to the Northeastern University School of Law’s LLM Program and explain how the degree relates to the applicant’s professional and personal goals.
